Ladang CARE, our Community Development Extension Centre that conducts Sustainable Agriculture training, researches and demonstrates cultivation of various crops, livestock and technologies.
The majority of our trainees in the sustainable agriculture courses were Orang Asli farmers and native community workers from Sabah and Sarawak. Some farmers have taken the seed of knowledge to be nurtured back in their own village and we are with them step-by-step. Currently, we are working with 31 villagers in Perak and Pahang, and are planning to extend the services to East Malaysia.
Why?
The Orang Asli are among the poorest in Malaysia with 50% living below the poverty line. Agricultural activities have always been their main form of sustenance. Whilst commercial agriculture has aided in alleviating poverty, the side-effect of biodiversity loss and degradation of natural forests is detrimental. By easing the problem of poverty, another bigger issue is actually looming when the environment is being compromised.
Goal
SMELL FRESHNESS
Fresh scent of cultivated crops fills the air on the 15-acre land, bordered by 2 beautiful rivers, 10km from the Chenderiang town in Perak. This is Ladang Care, where we engage in a long-term developmental effort with the Orang Asli community. And we are expanding this Community Development Extension Centre!
